Gas prices are headed up again...We are thinking about going to a sliding percentage sale Fuel Surcharge, adjusted weekly or monthly (ie for every 10 cents gas goes up over the baseline the surcharge goes up 1%, or something to that effect). Anyone else implemented or thought about this? Many shipping and transportation companies (such as UPS) use this method.

Also, in case you don't have it save in your Favorites here is a good link for historical data GasBuddy.com. Get to your city then click on the little bar at the top of the page that says Price Charts. I find the 18 month historical to be a good view to use.

So far We have been able to keep fuel at 11.5% of our operating cost. I would like to see it lower but don't really expect to have it my way. On long trips IE 50 miles or more away from the metro area we add one hour extra to compensate for driver and fuel. If the job starts from the metro area and goes to and from a destination more than 100 miles we add $35 or a tank of fuel. I think I would have a hard sell on an across the board fuel surcharge. However if it becomes more than 15% we'll make adustments some how.
