I have two AC compressor one for the front and one for the back.
The one for the back over the weekend last started leaking out the front of the the shaft. I have been told that to replace the shaft seal and go on. I have also been told if that seal is bad then how long will it be before the rest goes bad and replace the whole thing. I would like to know some honest opinion and if AC is your profession that much better. Do I repair or replace? Thanks Folks! |

Are you sure you have two compressors ? Compressors are only under the the hood and run off the main serpitine belt. You can have multipul oriface tubes, condenders & dryers with only one compressor. However if the single compressor has gone bad it proberly contaminated the whole system. Which means total replacement. I have had good luck with rebuilds, and they cost less . But brand new is usally better. I have my own A/C eguipment and only need a shop when I replace whole damm thing.

Always replace! Use brand new, no rebuilds. Also replace the orafice tube and dryer.Have an ac shop do the recharge. If you Just use the cans they sell at the parts store it wont work as good. The ac shop has the machine to pull air and moisture from the system. Most times when the front seal leaks the shaft and bairings are worn or on the way out. Good Luck!
