Okay, I got the message, dual alternators seems the soloution.

So , the question is, how.

I can get the dual kit from MTG parts, but I think I also need to change the powerline alternator with a OEM alternator, do will that fit straight in or do I neeed the original brackets etc.

Thanks

Scott

I don't know if this will add t anything for you, but my Excursion limo made by Ultra has a dual alternator on it and I've had an electrical shop bump both of them up over the years. My last Excursion was a 2004 S& R and it just had one bumped up alterbator(I forget what size) and it actually worked more reliably than the dual for some reason.

On the two alternator system, I have found that most of our cars have two alternators with two built in regulators one on each, this causes a problem called the lazy alternator, next time you get a chance check your system by feeling the alternator but be carfull one will most likely be hot and the other you could fry an egg on. Check out this site for mor info. http://www.amplepower.com/primer/twoeng/index.html

about the alternators the only two that were available were for a regular lincoln town car or one with the limousine package. the two were identical in mounting and electrical connections.

i had to put a regular alternator on my 10 pak because the local parts house didnt have a limo package alternators and the bearings were going out in mine.

i would just assume that the limo package alternator is built heavier that a stock one right ?.

Jason the dual alternator setup that most coachbuilders use is two of the standard Lincoln alternators. They found that those standard units put out more voltage at idle.

Online messaging etiquite usually has all capitals meaning you are shouting, or very angry.

But, that said, heavier duty is always better when you have something running a lot. If this is a sedan, the livery package one is wasted, but don't use anything else on a limo.

Ummm, just a thought though, I've never seen a listing for a heavier duty alternator. All the replacements I've ever gotten have one listing. Are you sure someone isn't trying to gouge you?

IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A NORMAL CAR ALTERNATOR AND A LIVERY PACKAGE ALTERNATOR ? BOTH FORD ALTERNATORS HAVE THE SAME AMPERAGE OF 130. I KNOW THERE WAS A BIG DIFFERENCE ON PRICE BETWEEN THE TWO. I UNDERSTAND THE LIVERY ONE IS PROBALLY BUILT HEAVIER BUT IS IT WORTH THE EXTRA PRICE WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK ABOUT IT ?

The stock alternator bolts at 2 points on the bottom directly to the engine. There may be a bracket needed for the top point, easily obtainable from dealer or auto-wrecker (aka salvage yard)

Scott call MTG and speak to their technical person about this. Im sure you will need the factory brackets with the original style alternator.
