I searched around here before posting and found a lot of threads pertaining to poor quality paint jobs done on limousines. Are these cars too big for painters' attention spans? Do they get tired of the project before it's complete and just sort of rush through the last steps?
I may be out of town for a little while and thought that this would be a good time to get my car painted. Problem is, finding a good shop that can do the work with a long enough paint booth and large enough shop. My car is just about 25 feet long (which by today's standards, is short for a limousine but is one of the longest I've seen from its era). I emailed a few shops who didn't even respond, I drove it to another who said it would be about $10K which is fine with me but a few weeks later, I called to ask something else and he must have had second thoughts on taking in a car this size and said it's probably more car than his shop can handle due to the length. Sooo, I'm looking for a paint shop as close to Mt. Airy, Maryland as possible (near the performance engine shop) that has a large booth, does good work, charges normal (not White Post) prices, and does a lot of classic car work. OR, I'm open to hear any out-of-the-box type ideas/approaches I could consider for painting. I should mention that I won't be able to do much prep work as I will be out of town for a while and want to pretty much drop it off before I leave and pick it up when I get back. I can remove the door panels and some simple trim items stuff but I have so much else to do before my trip, I'm going to have to leave most of that small stuff up to the shop to do. I want a color change and it needs a new vinyl top so this is probably a larger scope than Maaco or Earl Scheib can handle...also because I won't be able to do much prep work. I won't be happy with paint runs and lots of orange peel either...just want a paint job with a "factory finish." Doesn't have to be Ferrari glass smooth either. |

Thanks guys for your replies. My car is only 25 feet long, I guess about three feet shorter than a 120" so it may still be too big for High-Tech...I'll have to call and ask how long their booth is. |

Found it on my laptop. Here ya go:
A lot of MLA members use these shops, and Joanne the MLA VP actually turned me on to these two places last yaer. They do quality work. Classic Body & Fender Incorporated 10821 Pulaski Hwy White Marsh, MD 21162 (410) 335-6882 This repair shop does have a paint room to accommodate a 120". Depending on the size of your car, this may be a second alternative: High-Tech Auto Body (410) 661-4377 8606 Old Harford Road, Parkville, MD 21234 Ask to speak to Diane and let her know that it is a limousine, High-Tech does NOT have a paint room to hold a 120" |

I have the info you need, but it is on my desk at the office. I'll post and or PM it to you tomorrow.
The two shops that do good limo work are in and around Baltimore. One has a paint booth that you can easily fit a 120 into. GP |

Well,I don't know anyone up there that could do it, But I know a guy here in TN that builds them and does very fine paint work! Put it on a semi and ship it down here. I'd think you could get it done for well under 10K, shipped and all.
