Rainy days sometimes bring out the comedian phone calls. Just had a civilian who thought that a 120" EIGHT SEATER was a regular car. She said that something that size couldn't possibly be a stretch ! I told her to drive over to a Lincoln dealership and try putting eight of her friends in a town car. She said that a towncar could seat eight !!!! Earlier I had a want-a-be call to try to negotiate a deal on a dinner charter. He actually thought he was swift asking rates and minimums during various time periods-some of which were special events. At the end he whined that why wouldn't I charge him an hour to dinner and one hour on the return. I told him : Because we don't sir. He brightened up when I told him to keep shopping-someone was bound to comply with his request. He was obviously an experienced buyer of threadbarren, heavily discounted goods and services. And then are those that call for an airport transfer rate when they really need peak time transportation from JAZZFEST www.nojazzfest.com to their hotel, then the airport. That, of course, is an hourly charge if any availability exists. Most of the work is charter this weekend. It is always amazing to me that people humiliate themselves by bartering like they are in a bazaar in the old world.

How about this funny one:
Prom call. Kid: So what do you have left for X date? Rep: We have a 12 pass chrysler 300. Kid: Chrysler? Whats that? How does it look like? Rep: It looks like a long white stretched car. |

Its funny when they call and ask:
Give me a price for any limo. So I give him a price for like a hummer or Escalade. Then they ask: Why so much money? I reply - because its a 20 pass Escalade. They say: I didnt ask for that. I say: You said ANY LIMO??? So I gave you a price for a first car that was on my mind. Arent people just amazing. |

It is indeed an inside joke applicable to certain rural regions where the body style doesn't matter-the cars are put out to work for whatever they can make no matter how old they are and what condition they are in. It is said that in these rural regions the owner operators order each morning the 2.99 Revenue Hobo Plate at their local diner.

Am always up for a bit of barter... if no other bookings, rather lose a small chunk.
Problem is the people who barter are the ones who make the most mess! |

What gets me is when they call up ON THE DAY asking for help when the company they booked didn't turn up after realising that the date was a prime one ! and of course took a higher paying job. ( never done that in 20 years of operating despite bribery ! )

The smart ones are working for full rate Dave. The others are out hustling the left-overs.
