Another item, I didn't mention was I keep one filled with the No Sugar candy for those who require or wish to have it and it is marked "No Sugar" on the glass container. Just like I keeping diet soda on hand.

Converted all my decanters to square glass candy dishes. Easy to keep filled and no spill problems. Water is always available. The car is a No.Smoking, non (alcohol) drinking vehicle. Soda and coffee is rarely requested or consumed on trips.

We put non-alcohol champagne in for proms. Young adult mentioned that as the car was going around a corner, he was pouring the champagne. Said he did not spill a drop and barely felt the turn as all in the back did not lean.
Commented on the smooth ride around corners. Thats the way you operate a limo and still Keep those Big Cars Rolling. Chuck |

Another idea...check with your local Pepsi/ Coke distributor. I did a promo exective luncheon for one, and asked if they could "donate" some bottled waters for my car, for future trips. Two weeks laters, a truck pulls in my drive and unloads 8 cases (24 in each), compliments of Pepsi!!! It's not that expensive to buy it either. $6.00 a case?? Nice touch and easy to clean!!
As far as the senerio, My old company didn't pay for coffee spills in my lap. You drink while driving, you take the chances. an appology is all I could see happen...unless she was a BRAT and you purposely sprayed her with it!! I agree with the "ice" comments. Everytime clients get out, I "touch-up" the interior so it looks the same as they first got in. Makes a difference. Recover a lot of their "lost" items that way too. Makes for a really easy cleanup later |

In your original post, you made no mention of this being a scenario and not really happening.
As I said before, this is a learn as you go type of business. If you can think up the scenarios, you can plan ahead to eliminate them. As for the decanters, I agree with you that it is difficult to always fill with what the customer wants and could be expensive. Mine are filled with potpourie. If the customer wants alcohol, we can use coolers. Usually, they want to provide their own alcohol so that they get what they want. Women in the car like to open the decanters and smell the scent. In 3 years, I have never had any complaints about the lack of alcohol in the decanters. Ever see backwash in a bottle? Not in my decanters. In the future, make sure that you let us know that these are scenarios. You will hear the same responses, just not aimed directly at you. Keep up the good work and Keep those Big Cars Rolling Chuck |

Getting back to the orginal question; I would suspect that if you want to do the right thing for the client, I would offer to have it cleaned. However I do not beleive you would be responsible. What if they brought the soft drink?

Mr Maceyy, I noted your post about drivers that pull out in front at the last minute, I too service an area where that happens quite often and when I'm working that area I drive at slower speeds leaving larger gaps between vehicles in front of me, so if someone wants to pull in front there's a gap, if they do it at the last minute then I'm going slow enough to brake gently, its called defensive driving and has worked well for me, no sodas flying about.

Fill them with harmless food coloring, colored water. Adds a nice touch but is harmless if some one takes a slug.

Those decanters what do you put in them do you fill them to the top after every run do you change whats in there wow! that could be a big expence and liability some of the crowds I have had I would have to change them every trip never know what was dropped in the bottle I can see it now being on the cover of Limos.com for someone ODing on Limousine provided Liquor I would rather clean the mess of sodas then supply alcohol. I allways keep nips on hand if someone 21 and above ask for something. but I do not advertise it. |

That's a little like getting the Motel 6 version of a limo instead of the Four Season's or Hilton. For 16 years we have served an assortment of Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, 7-Up, Bottled water, champagne and of course alcohol decanters that last time I checked were included with the price of a new limo. I realize in some states that that might be illegal but in California it is an expectation along with variety. Every car leaves our garage with a full ice chest and scoop and anytime the client is out of the car the wells are re-iced. It's called "icing the car" and when done properly as explained below, there would not be a problem and people feel like they
got a luxury limousine instead a budget limousine. Believe me, they are not thinking you are being chinzy because the "soda might spray". |

We only supply bottled water. It's easy to clean , it's in soft plastic bottles , and the caps can be put back on.
The ice bin should always be full , and the car cleaned out and re-organized every time the client is out of the car |

Boy you people are on top of things. let me say this first I was asking a question, this was a senario we talked about happening, same as if a car cut in front of yours and you had to hit the brakes and stop quick drink goes flying all over everyone and everything not only have to clean a sticky mess but could you be held responsible they didnt see a car cut out all they know is you hit the brakes I am only looking ahead as I was just told to do sodas make a mess plain and simple. OH okay now Ill hear if I was paying more attention I would not have to have hit the brakes give me a break drive in Downtown Boston some time if the cabbies dont cause a problem the Pot holes will oh yea those can be avoided yea right if you say they can you havent drove in Boston!!

In the future try those cute little half cans that soda companies now make. Just enough for somebody's mixer, or to freshen a parched throat - but not so much that partially empty cans of warm soda get knocked over onto the interier.
As in the posts above, the sodas should not have been let to warm up so (smacks of unprofessionalism or worse |

Depending on the weather and the length of the hire we work out if we need to carry extra ice in a large cooler in the trunk, that way if more ice is needed it can be topped up while the customer is in a building/Restaurant etc.

My wife read this post and her first reply was "why was the cooler half empty allowing the cans to roll around?"
2nd question was "if they were rolling around with no ice in the cooler, they could not have been cold." Both items show some unprofessionalism. This is not a slam to you or your company and we are not saying you are not professional. These are important items that you must always be on top of. A full cooler, even if you use water to fill the space, and it must always have enough ice so it will look refreshing to the customer. Putting a room temp. soda on ice for 15 minutes will not make it cold. If you start with a cooler of ice, and your customer is in a restaurant for an hour, get more ice for the ride home. Most often, they will want a cold refreshing drink for the 20 minute ride home. This is also a learn as you go industry so don't be afraid of a little criticisim. The question you asked is important as I am sure others have had the same experience. By posting here, we all help each other. Keep the sodas and Keep those Big Cars rolling Chuck |

Soda should have been in the fridge prior to putting in the car, at least 24 hours. This is called planning ahead and This will keep the ice from melting so quickly, especially in warm weather. Your ice should last at least an hour unless you had the car parked in the sun prior to leaving. Also, keep your coolers fairly full by putting in bottles of water to fill space.
When you leave your shop, turn on only the air so at least it is cool when you pick up the guests. You can turn on the rest of the interior when you arrive. If I have a 30-45 mile destination for pick up, I will take additional ice or stop and get a bag to keep things cool and on ice. This is how I handle the heat of summer in Iowa as I Keep those Big Cars rolling. PS. If it sprayed her dress, how bad did it get the interior? Sticky seats, splattered windows, bar, carpet, headliner? |
