Can anyone recommend a good back-up camera manufacturer and/or model?
I am curious how effective these things are at night?
And how easy is it for the driver to see the TV or LCD screen in the daytime with the sunshine on it?
Seems that you need to choose carefully to get one that really is worth it...

The best camera that I have ever used and seen is at this link

http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?InvtId=JK-119T&cm_mmc=...ccessories-_-JK-119T

They are out of stock on it all the time. Its a hot item. If you can find the same one you are in a good shape. I have few of these on my limo installed outside in the back and used as interior cameras as well.

That is so far the best interior camera I ever used. And it can be tilted. Out SUVs have one on each end of vehicle inside. It has a VERY wide viewing angle. I love it. Our drivers love it.

I think GOYO makes it. I also have a spare one that is wireless. Pefect for stretch limos because you dont have to run a wire. Spare one is made by GOYO.

I use a back up on my buddies 40' RV and I say don't waste your time, back up sensors are much easier to use and more effective. With a back up camera, you have to constantly be looking at the camera to see if something comes into your path. With sensors, you just need to listen for the beeps while you use your mirrors. If something unexpected goes in your path(drunk pedestrian, dog, baby, etc...), you hear the beeping. Also, sometimes it's difficult to recognize a hazard with a back up camera.

Tough times don't last. Tough people do.

I think these things are only as good as the gentleman using them. i have sat next to a couple of drivers who were looking straight into their back up camera at nite and they almost back into something. i think these cameras help the good drivers but if the drivers isnt good at backing up in the first place they still have touble. ill say this they give the good driver piece of mind

Tex
A company called Roldan make a rearview camera system that can be mounted on the visor for backing up or on the dash with a 5.8 TFT liquid color display. It is very important to have 150 degree field of vision. I have had a black and white unit for over eight years and it has been very good, the experts say that color is not as good at night. My camera is mounted on the trunk lid and has a surround to take the sun out, the camers is a low lux light unit and works well at night, using the rear lights for light. It is also connected to a VCP to record what the camera sees when I need to.
