Quick question, can you recommend a vendor for GPS tracking device? Do you advice on getting this service?

Thank You

I have to say I have @road, and it is awesome. I'm really not sure how we ran a company without it. Besides other benefits, I have already caught 4 drivers (of which these 4 I would never suspect) going into NYC without permission or jobs. Worth every penny!!

Jim,
I'm not sure if I got some special deal or not, I'm sure NOT!!! But my buddy and I between both companies, bought a total of 20 units.
You are looking at $500 per vehicle for the equipment and $30 per month per vehicle for the service, and they installed mine for me included in the price.

Alright, I'm not going to say this is the best, but I have sat through just about everyones demos and finally found one that works for me. This GPS system is web based and track the vehicles speed, locations, start times and end times. It also let you know if the vehicle is running or not when sitting idle, just a little gas saver (it's also fun to call one chauffeur at a concert and tell them to shut off the car during a 5 hour concert, then watch all the other cars turn red and shut off as the rumor flies). This GPS system also reads off the cars computer, a check engine light comes on, within second I get a text message / email about the light and the code. The system also tracks mileage, so my mechanic and myself get email about when oil changes and other maintance is due. Check it out, I think you will be impressed!!!

Most of the local governments in my area use it on their police and public works fleets.

You can see your vehicles real-time, any time you want. You can set the system to notify you via email, pager cell phone whenever a car exceeds a preset speed, or enters and or exits zones that you can set up.

Also you can see if the car is running and if the doors are locked. There is also a kill feature.

It is not inexpensive, about $1000.00 per car, plus monthly, but it is the most functional of all the systems we have seen. You can use it web-based and or in house on your servers, or both if you wish. (The only provider that offers that feature as far as I know.)

My GPS provider does the same thing for less than half of that. It is web based.

This has a 100% tracking rate with Government used by US military, Satellite photo, any vehicle with 12v system will install and auto thief’s don’t know it on a car like Low jack in the trunk 5 minutes out and on a forklift, or On Star certain autos and thief’s know break open the antenna over the driver break the wire and can’t track or find it.

Do either of these services offer in car information? Currently I've got a laptop with an MS GPS unit for getting around town. Do these replace that? Or is it just for office based monitoring of the fleet?

How buggy has your mapping program been Wade? Any issues?

Tony I haven't had the first problem yet. We have been on this system for just over a year now.

Robert your answer about Teletrac being better is not true for us. I wanted a web based tracking system not software based. And those who want web based tracking Discrete is better. See it depends upon what you are looking for. I can monitor my cars from any internet connection from anywhere in the world.
