I am trying to figure out what is the best insurance coverage needed for a 2 vehicle operation. 1-12 seater stretch and 1 sedan in an area like DC Metro.

Good call and you will need a USDOT Number if you are going to work interstate outside of the commercial zone. If for some reason you plan to only work Virginia, (you did mention you were based in VA, or am I wrong?)and the area covered by the commercial zone, you don't need a USDOT number.

That is the advantage of working in a federally recognized Commercial Zone. (Again, visit the WMATC site for all of the info on that.)

If you are going to work BWI Airport, and anything outside of PG and Montgomery counties in Maryland, just do as Wimpy said and pull a USDOT number from the FMCSA; you can do it all online. It will cost $300.00 as I recall.

To work the DC Metro area you will be required to have a minimum of $1.5 million on every vehicle that seats up to 14 persons, including the driver.

For cars that seat 15 or more persons including the driver, you will need $5 million per vehicle.

Here is a link to the WMATC site where you can find all the info you will need on working the DC-MD-VA Commercial Zone.

PS-Did you get the PM I sent, I think I covered this info there
