Strathclyde police try to change law.
They have charged several operators .
The drivers for not having a taxi drivers badge and the owners for not having taxi plates.

At present Glasgow council does not license limos and no intention to.
They have charged the companies so they can debate the matter in court, it has got so out of control the police have issued a letter to all police forces in scotland saying no one else has to be charged as the councils at present don't give licenses.(exept Edinburgh)
They have wrote to all the councils giving them 4 months (dated 06/04/05)to introduce a license system.
After the 4 month period all operators without a license will be put of the road even if the councils still say they will not license anything but taxis.
Operators stuck in the middle between the police and the council.

Because Scotland seems to play by its own rules it may be hard to get licenced BUT if you were taken to court you could have a good case by quoting what has happened in England where all the Local Councils were given a directive by the DFT to change their regulations in order to make compliance available for Limousines, as far as I'm aware ALL Councils in England licence Limousines. I had to attend several meetings with my local LA in order to change the regs so they would fit in a new criteria.

The deadline for Authorities to comply was end of Jan 2008

I had a Stretch in Paisley in 1989/90, back then I couldn`t get it licenced because (they said) it was a left hand drive vehicle and left hand drive vehicles could not be licenced as "Private Hire".Needless to say I gave up and came 'Home' to Canada. At least here I don`t get the abuse I used to get in Glasgow e.g. "Get that piece of American sh*t aff the effin road" Funny thing was ,it was built in Canada.
Good luck boys - yer gonny need it!
