All transportation services & consumers should be blasting the Tampa Airport regarding its plan to increase the travel costs to the consumer by implementing permitting fees to be charged to airport transportation serices.
These companies already pay through the nose through various taxicab protectionism economic regulatory measures imposed by the HCPTC that extend well beyond licensing & vehicle permitting fees. Send a blast to these TIA Officials with a reminder that TIA is the airport it is only because of the travelers residing outside of Hillsborough County: LMiller@TampaAirport.com JWheat@TampaAirport.com This message has been edited. Some more ammo for those who plan to oppose TIA implementing fees upon limousine services:
Applicable only to operations engaged solely in intercounty transportation Ch 316.003( 3 ) F.S. Defines a BUS as any vehicle designed to transport 10 or more passengers and any vehicle, other than a taxicab, designed to transport passengers for compensation. Florida Law does not define taxicab services therefore when looking at Federal Statute; 49 USC 13102 a taxicab service is; licensed as such by state or local jurisdiction provides local transportation does not primarily provide transportation to or from airports Ch 316.003 (78) Defines a nonpublic sector bus as ANY BUS not under contract with a government entity. TIA is an Independent Special District ( a municipality ) & therefore a local government entity. Ch 341.102 ( 1 ) No local government entity shall unduly restrict or impose ANY economic regulation upon nonpublic sector buses solely engaged in intercounty transportation......... Do with it as you will "Suing Tampa Limo Regulator In Federal Court For The Right To Use Fuel Efficient Vehicles & Violations Of Federal & State Preemptions. What Has Your National Or Local Assoc. TIA held a meeting yesterday & the permitting fees seems to be a done deal effective 1 January.
Lets see if the WFLA has the balls to drag this into court or better yet, show a real big set by announcing a limo shut down for the 2009 Super Bowl. Nicole,
If everyone in this Industry jumped on board such as you did whenever & wherever business abuse is experienced it would be a whole different atmosphere. Strength is in numbers & there are a whole lot more smaller operators whose voices could easily drown out the bullies. I just sent them an email...
I oppose higher fees imposed on the limousines that service your airport. My family and friends do not appreciate having to pay higher fees to the limo companies because of the higher fees you are deciding to be placed on these companies. You are not leaving travelers with fair decision making rights, I reserve the right to rent a limousine over a taxi, taxis do not have room for 8 passengers, nor do they supply drinks and treats for my children after being on an airplane for the past 5 hours. Your descrimination against limousines companies, and providing preferential treatment to the taxicab industry is not fair, and will not go unheard or undisputed. Taxicab drivers are reckless in driving (have tried it before, in your city when flying in), and since that one incident I will never ride a cab again!!! I have always chosen limousine companies, they are reliable, and SAFE!!!! As a traveler, I am the one who has to pay these ridiculous fees, and I do not appreciate being thrown into this nonsense because your airport has preferential treatment for recklessly driven taxicabs over these limousine companies with safer driven vehicles/transportation.
