Did you all receive your letter from the NLA offering you the half price deal?? Makes you just want to run right down and sign right up. Not.

Their Book Of Members alone is worth the dues. As soon as GAS GUZZLER is done completely (until the next Highway Bill when it will have to be renewed ) they will be moving on to issues that we truly need their help on-issues that affect all of us. I spoke today with a MAJOR POLITICAL PERSON who told me we need to bring all forms of transportation associations together to form a transportation lobby-I agree...

Increase value, raise dues. MORE ASSISTANCE ON THE ISSUES THAT MATTER TO OPERATORS. I will have to say that having a lobbyist on the payroll is the best thing they have ever done. Our first NLA Lobbyist in 1985 just wasn't effective. The limousine industry is still finding it's way relative to national associations. I belong to all the national transportation organizations and I certainly get my money's worth from each one.

NLA FOUNDER Tony Mazzarella recently passed away-there is an excellent story in the Cleveland Plain Dealer today. Mr. Tony operated American Limousine of Cleveland since the mid- 1940's and was indeed THE REAL DEAL. I consider myself lucky to be associated with the Mazzarella's.

There is a limit to my willingness to waste time on this ridiculous organization, but I'll repeat what I have said before. There is no swan song because NLA must exist for those who pimp it, and if it did not exist then Bobit would have to invent it as a figleaf for the Las Vegas show. It will be propped up by a few larger operators, Ford, GM and Bobit as a "national association" even if there were only 10 members. I haven't seen the "half price" offer, but I can only say that perhaps NLA is starting to get a glimmer of what a membership is worth - after all, they should know best. As for me? I'll wait for the "buy one, get one free" offer, and I'll take the free one. This message has been edited. Last edited by: JHJ, |

Could the Gas Guzzler fiasco and this desperate attempt to gain members by going counter to their own philosophy be the swan song of the NLA??? Reminds me of a Fish out of water flopping around on the Dock in a desperate effort to just maybe flip back into the water.
You thoughts JHJ??? David E. Merrill |

They did call me the other day and said I was not listed for New Orleans. I am going to call Fran Shane when I return from this ROAD TRIP. Either the webmaster had a "senior moment" or there is malfeasance at play. I assume the webmaster explanation is the correct one. If I am incorrect, then those that know me can easily surmise what will happen next.

Think they need to add to the payola chest to fight the next losing battle?

Half price sales always make me wonder... David, I don't believe in running below cost...and I hate shabby vehicles and drivers that just don't get it. THIS IS A PROFESSION ! If you can't sell service, then you sell price. Think fully about what that means, my friend. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Dean Schuler, Dean Schuler |

I guess the point I am trying to make here is it has always been the philosophy of the NLA and LCT to not cut your price no matter what. Doing so brands you as a cut rate service or as Dean calls them a "share Cropper, "Bottom Feeder" or any other shall we say, any other "unkind" name you can think of. Then to see the NLA turn right around and do the very same thing they advocate aganist kind of make you wonder.
Dean hope you weather Katrina well and suffer no loss. Looks like She is heading your way. We will get the left overs along about Tues or so. David E. Merrill |

I have been a member for decades. Many site the membership book as the reason for joining. I stay for two reasons : 1. BARRY LEFKOWITZ 2. It is a Limousine Association, not anything else. I was around before any National Associations for transportation operators. The founders of the NLA were magnificent operators. They even had their own show in Dallas around 1988 which just about caused the powers that be at that time to blow a gasket. We all know the other events/problems/personal pursuits by Directors that have passed our respective desks. The effort that BARRY makes is what I track. We as an Industry need an effective lobbyist.
