I have a good one for you guys, listen to this. A year ago I had some clients rent our stretch Navigator to take them to a Mardi Gras party in New Orleans. There were a total of 12 people in our limousine. These were professinal people attending a surgeons party that he hosts every year. When they got into the French Quarter traffic was stopped because of congestion. Two of the women got out of my limousine to use a porta-potti on the side of the street. When they got back in the limousine a stranger got in the limousine with them. One of the shocked male passengers asked the man what the hell he was doing and the stranger replied.."do you want your ass kicked?" My male passenger says yes and they started fighting in my limousine. Well the stranger happened to be an undercover state police officer in plain clothes. My passenger was arrested and brought to jail. About two months after this incident I was sued by the state police officer for getting his nose broken. The lawsuit accuses my company of transporting clients that were likely to assault a police officer. Now I'm not joking that is the exact wording. We counter-sued here in district court in Baton Rouge for tresspassing and damage to my vehicle. A court in New Orleans has refused to throw out the police officers suit. This case is still pending in New Orleans and Baton Rouge and ill let you people know what happens. And my best friend is a personal injury attorney and is amazed that this suit has not been thrown out of court yet. But this is an example of how the legal justice system can be manipulated by sleeze bags.

Michael yes they do allow limousines to ride on most streets in the French Quarter during Mardi Gras. The exception of being on Fat Tuesday when the Quarter is closed to pedestrian traffic only. Most people find out quickly that you don't start trouble during Mardi Gras. The New Orleans Police are world famous for controlling crowds. There are at least 4 of them posted at every intersection and many more on horseback. They really don't condone fighting and will literally beat the hell out of you if your caught. The horses allow them to view anything within a block and they are very well prepared for trouble. Most of the locals know you don't ever mess with them and the tourists find out quickly. When I was at Mardi Gras a couple of years ago, I was amazed that limousine company's allowed their limos to enter the French Quarter. There was chaos everywhere, drunks, riot-like activity. There were limos stuck in the congestion that just sat there. I would think that with all of that congestion and drunkards in proximity, your limousine would be a prime target for scratches, poundings, people jumping on it, beer spilling on it, etc. If such happens, what is your recourse outside of jumping out of the limo and getting immersed in the riot? Someone stratches the limo and can bolt, seconds later never to be found because of the crowds and chaos. Maybe things have since changed? (I was there in 1996) Michael

My mother, Sandy, was in a local deli last week and asked to use the facilities. She did so and when she walked out of the restroom (in the back room of the deli) she made a wrong turn and fell through a hole, that usued to be a stairway, six feet to the mud floor in the basement. When she landed, she broke her left arm, right wrist and sprained her ankle, really bad.
She then climed out of the hole, went back into the restroom, cleaned the mud off her face and arms and turned her muddy shirt inside-out. Then she went back to the counter, paid for the lunch and drove home.
Much later, after she returned from the emercency room (that dad had dragged her to) I asked about a possible suit. Her response was " I beleive in watching where the hell you walk, not suing people when you are stupid enough not to."
Man, if more people took that point of view, we'd all have low-cost insurance. How true!! PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY !! Let's see if we can get WADE to tell us the story of the limo driver who took his company's limo to the race track and entered it in a race!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wade Randolph" Wade, Remember that column I wrote years ago relative to such people ? I recommended tarring and feathering the bastards- still good advice!! Better get that suit moved to Baton Rouge... ( an old joke between Wade and Dean ) Wade, 16 years ago on a Mardi Gras job, a civilian jumped into my limo while I was cleaning it on break and wouldn't get out. So I posted the s.o.b. and threw him out on the pavement. Fortunately, he wasn't an undercover cop and I was ( as we say in Louisiana ) " out in da parish ". The cops laughed at him and ran him off when he went whining to them. Another product of our wonderful education system which doesn't seem to teach " cause & effect." In those days we were always taught to protect our vehicles and clients so if an unauthorized individual came into my space he was definitely going to " the hurt zone ". Remember our soldier-of-fortune "friend" turned driver who posted those three drunks in the Quarter when they kicked his car ? That was funny as hell......... Too bad we can't tell more stories about those times !!
