Thanks Marc,

You know, each year I say this is it. I am done with it. It was pointed out by a close friend who I recently told this will be the final year for me anyway. He said, "you told me that for the last two years".

It is comments like yours, Marc, that I hear from community members and the smiles on the faces of hundreds of kids that make be say, "Okay, maybe one more year".

Jim,
What a stellar example of community service. This is a concept each and every one of us could emulate in our own community. Thanks for leading by example, once again.

Gunny,

As a result of your post, pointing out that I was not a sponsor, I have written a check this year for $3000 for Limousine Scene to be a Gold Level Sponsor.

I always felt that my donation of countless hours was my "sponsorship" but realized that if I am going to hit up my friends, they too probably expect to see my logo. I felt like Jim Luff and Limousine Scene are one in the same within my community. You motivated me to put my money where my mouth is and if I ask other community businesses to contribute, I too should contribute.

An invitation to all - specially Dean!

I thought I would reactivate this thread and invite all of you to come to beautiful Bakersfield, CA for my annual Brews in the Village Festival.

Here is a little more about it:

Over 100 different beers from an estimated 60 breweries from across United States and Canada, plus 20 Central Coast wineries with over 50 different wines! As you walk through the Village, you will now experience four (4) stages of live entertainment and 17 of Bakersfield's and the nation's hottest bands performing throughout the Kern County Museum grounds! We have ”La CantinaVille” where you can sample food and BREWS from South of the Border, and we have frozen margaritas. Unlimited food samples are provided from 30 of Bakersfield's most popular restaurants.

Big KahunaVille features GILLIGAN’S KonTiki Lounge! VinoVillage will serve up some of Bakersfield’s finest tunes (plus National Recording Artist Eric Darius.

While it all sounds fun, Dean, I want to tell you what we have done in the past year with the money earned from the night you and your brother attended.

We sent 107 kids, each with a $100 bill shopping with a cop in our "Shop with a Cop Christmas Party" for some very needy children

We sent 17 disabled children to a special camp for disabled children.

We provided educational materials for 5 classrooms for mentally challenged children.

Provided 384 backpacks for kids who could not afford them.

Provided 137 car seats for families that could not afford them.

Purchased a 15 Passenger Van for the Sheriff's Activities League which is like a Boys and Girls Club in the middle of the ghetto. This allows these kids to get out of the hood and see the world.

Started a soccer league for 237 kids who all have matching uniforms and pay no fees and pay for no uniforms. We provided the sod for the fields, goals, balls, cones and uniforms

These are our big projects. We also have smaller projects. Not bad for a night of drinking huh?

So, come one, come all. We have 4500 tickets to sell and we never in 12 years have had a single ticket left over.

The event is September 8, 2007 from 6pm to 10pm.
Of course we follow that by going to my bar where we continue the party until we are done. I believe your brother watched the sun come up Dean.

Shall I book you a room?

It is a very odd feeling to spend all year working on an event, the event comes and its all over in the blink of an eye.

It was so well attended this year that Dean and I actually became "lost" from each other a couple times during the night even though we walked side by side all night.

We are still tallying the numbers of success.

Luff did you hold hands while walking side by side???? Big Grin

What a wonderful event and a terrific testament to the volunteers of Bakersfield.

You mention 400 volunteer servers, how many volunteers actually contribute to put everything together during the 10.5 months?

Fantastic event to raise funds for the Children. The Festival was a super experience !! Everyone in the Kern County power structure knows Luff-he is well-respected. I had a tour of Bakersfield and his shop and a absolutely superb meal at Buck Owen's Crystal Palace. Luff and his lovely wife were wonderful hosts.

We will have 4500 paid attendance and another 1500 comps from sponsors, radio/tv station winners, city dignitaries etc. We will have two National acts on stage, 15 local bands on various stages and a night of fun. It takes 10 1/2 months to plan each year. More importantly, we will raise just under $300,000 for local childrens charity organizations!

Luff, To be honest I was wondering why Dean referenced it as your event. I was even surprised not to see you listed as a sponsor. Then I read the "What Is" portion & saw your name (yesterday).

My hats off to you for donating time to the most precious resource there is, the little ones.
