Yeah, & I say the same thing every January minus the breeze off the lake. 90/90 - that's what they make AC's & pools for. in reference to these types of buses not having seat belts , my turtle top on a e450 chassis does have them for all 25 seats. i have not seen any of the pictures or information. sadly as with the bluffton baseball team crash , it seems to only happen to legal hard working people.
i am attempting my first vacation in 17 years donw at disney / orlando with the family , so i am a bit out of the loop , and am trying to get used to a laptop. it's about 100 degrees today with 90% humidity , just perfect. i'll take the 80's and low humidity with cool breezes off lake erie any day over this. |

Not quite. Greene is the President of the NLA. It was his bus involved in the fatal wreck. I know, I know there are good Guys in this business but I have seen Sooooo many shady operators (worked for a few) in this Detroit market it is hard not to be a little cynical when something like this happens. I hope he is squeeky clean because yes I agree, it can happen to anyone.

Dave I think your jumping the gun here. This bus was only 1 or 2 years old. Jeff Greene runs a first class operation. Who knows what caused this. This could happen to any one of us. Wade Randolph |

Thanks for the information Guys. Just after been around this business as long as I have I guess I am just kind of cynical and beleive that many owners really do not care about their Chauffeurs but only about the all mighty Buck and will run them and their equipment until it or they drop.
Let the investigation begain. Seems thes people were quite high profile folks. David E. Merrill |

Other reports have the passengers hearing a "pop" just before the bus careened into the divider. Could of been a blowout & doubtful anything to do with driver fatigue.
If a blowout, could be a tire defect or improper inflation as the culprit. "Suing Tampa Limo Regulator In Federal Court For The Right To Use Fuel Efficient Vehicles & Violations Of Federal & State Preemptions. What Has Your National Or Local Assoc. Done For You Lately? " Visit www.thefita.com |

David the photos I saw showed forward facing seats. Not perimeter seating. It was a Krystal F550 bus. If you hit hard enough it won't matter what kind of seating it is anyway without seat belts. None of these buses come with them. Wade Randolph |

This is the one great fear any driver of a Bus with perimiter seating has while cruising down the E-way at 70 MPH. Many of your passenger are probably standing eventhough you have warned them about the dangers and what can happen if you have to make a sudden manuver. I know that perimiter seating is the classy thing in a Limo coach but forward facing seating is a whole lot safer. I also wonder just how long this Driver had been driving or on duty since he would not be subject to keeping a Log.

How is the driver faring? Does anyone know anything more on this? Also, for those that have been in business for quite a while, would this type of accident affect the sales of other companies with the limo buses? It's always dreadful to hear about accidents like these, I remember once when another driver was coming back from Ocean City, MD, driving on the Bay Bridge and was T-boned by a drunk driver with passengers inside. The drunk driver did not have insurance, it was horrible watching and seeing the events unfold, no one perished, thank God, but nonetheless, it was still awful!

There are also reports that the damage was caused by the bus hitting the divider. Who knows until the investigation is done & lawsuits are filed.

Jeff uses Drive-Cam so we should have the chauffeur's view of what went wrong. It is my understanding a part of the steering mechanism broke and the chauffeur had no steering control on the Interstate. Ford and the coachbuilder better break out the wallets. Absolutely a horrible ugly nightmare for all involved.
God bless those who perished and a wish for a speedy recovery for the injured survivors. |
