By BRANDON LAUSCH STAFF WRITER John "Jack" Harrison, a sitting member of the Clinton Town Council remembered for his unshakable faith and uncompromising integrity, died Tuesday following complications from a heart attack. He was 67. "He guilelessly viewed the good in people, and in situations, by always having his glass half full, always full," said Sandy Harrison, his high-school sweetheart and wife of 45 years. "And when somebody would say, 'Have a good day,' he would counter that every single time by saying, 'It's a choice, you know.'" The Republican councilman, who was appointed in 2005 and won a three-year term in November, founded AAA Guaranteed On-Time Limousine Service in 1991 and was an enthusiast of classic Cadillac cars. Harrison enjoyed walking his dog, Buddy, a "terrier mutt that looked a lot like Tramp" from Disney's "Lady And The Tramp," Sandy Harrison said. He also enjoyed camping and hiking trips with his family, she said. Among the family's memorable excursions, Sandy Harrison said, was a five-week trip in 1973 across most of the country that allowed the Harrison clan to experience small-town America. A year later, the family moved to Clinton Town, where the Harrisons joined Clinton United Methodist Church and its choir. Recently, Harrison's knees deteriorated, forcing him to undergo double knee-replacement surgery Jan. 3 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Four days later, just as he was expected to begin rehabilitation, Harrison suffered a heart attack. He was soon transferred to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. His family and pastor followed, singing to Harrison by his bedside. "Maybe he was hearing us, maybe he wasn't," Sandy Harrison said of the hyms she would sing with the couple's three children, John, Lois and Matthew. "But we were singing anyway." A celebration of Harrison's life is scheduled for 2 p.m. March 2 at Clinton United Methodist Church, 12 Halstead St. Friends and family said the service will be far from gloomy. "He wouldn't want people coming to a morbid service and wearing black and crying," said Mayor Christine Schaumburg. "He wants them to celebrate his life, and that's very much like Jack Harrison." |

Matt , sorry to hear about your dad. Although I never met him , I know through conversations you and I had that family was the most important thing in your life. That comes from being raised by a good man and woman. We will keep you in our prayers as you go through these trying times.
Maybe with all the loss of life over the last few years due to this war , God needed a director of transportation to handle all the new recruits. |

Matt,
It was a pleasure meeting your father at the Limousine Digest Show last November. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I am glad you and your father sat at our table at the awards dinner and I had a chance to talk with him. We had a great conversation and I was looking forward to meeting him again. I wish the best for you and your family and hope your father rests in peace. Do celebrate his life. The passing of a loved one is just that! Best Wishes David Hartson |

You know guys I think the most honorable thing you could say about a man was that he cared most about his family. I know this was true of Mr. Harrison. He was a great dad to his children and wonderful husband to Mrs. Harrison. He left this world too young and he will be sorely missed.
