Are most drivers hired as independent contractors and issued a 1099? Do any limo companies hire drivers full time and give them benefits such as health care, dental, life insurance?

Good Point David. I guess thats some of thier strategies! Do it until you get caught!

Steve: according to thr IRS,it is just "misclassification" of workers. It becomes illegal when you don't do what the IRS "suggest" you do to correct the misclassification. The State is where you can really get nailed but as long as the money holds out, you can keep fighting them in court but they will keep it up untill the ware you out or run you out of money then they still collect.

IN California George that is mostly illegal. If you have employees you are expected to treat them and pay them as, get ready for it, EMPLOYEES! I know it's revoloutionary but true!

Only heard of it never seen it in CA anyway, there may be a few who do the medical.

Use the find function and type in Independent contractor. I am sure you will find your answer there.
