Should I have general liability coverage? We live in a "litigious society" so it seems that it would be a good idea to cover myself. What sort of policies do some of you carry besides vehicle ins.?

It is important to make sure that if purchasing this coverage because you want it not because you are required to, that it is written so as to cover operations and not just premises only coverage.
The GL policy (on an operations basis) should cover, as Wade said, non-vehicle exposures. Providing insurance to the transportation industry since 1884. Phil T. Brun Kiely, Hines & Associates Insurance 800-295-1897 Ext. 2756 502-569-2756 Direct pbrun@kielyhines.com |

Thanks Wade. That seems like very little cost for a whole lot of peace of mind.

He is speaking of General Liability not auto liability. The answer is yes you should. It will protect you in case of a non-auto accident such as a passenger falling down after they get out of the limo or a chauffeur getting into a confrontation with a passenger or a missed pickup on a wedding. We were able to get a $2 million dollar policy for about $700.00 per year.

I agree with Digger. In the world today you need to COVER YOUR ASS! I've been involved or been part of shady claims from people just out for a law suit and quick bucks. Not often, but does happen.
GOD forbid, your in an injury accident! People can go after you in criminal court and cival court- go after you personally and all your assets. So, LLC is a good idea. Get the best coverage you can. I carry 5 mill. and found out for an extra $800 I could get another 1 mill. added on. Small price to pay, money goes really fast in a lawsuit. |

Don't be a self-proprietor (go LLC) and make sure you have a minimum of 1 mil insurance. Here, Ohio law states 300k minimum for any limousine but I feel that it way too low for a 10 passenger car. 300k could go real fast if you had a big claim.
