Is the $500 PUC Fee a yearly fee? Or just a one time fee when you apply for your initial approval? If not, is there any yearly PUC fee?

Now wait a minute Karl - people actually under-report their revenue? SHOCKING! Yes, Steve it is .0025 x your quarterly revenue. My average payment per quarter is $600 to $700. Not a lot of money but annoying to pay just the same. What exactly does it pay for? Yeah, nothing that benefits me. Last time I called PUC to report an illegal I got the run around. They said they had no field enforcement in Bakersfield and to call the CHP. The CHP told me the guy is running a business without a license and to call the Sheriff as he was in the county and even if they saw the car on the road there is no probable cause to stop it unless it violates a Vehicle Code law. The sheriff's department told me they don't enforce PUC code and to call the CHP or PUC. So PUC gets my money for nothing quarterly.
p.s. - Hello to my friends at CHP Sacramento Headquarters. They read THIS forum anytime you mention CHP or California Highway Patrol. I did not say anything bad about you this time, or recommend anything bad, just telling it like it was so no need to contact me again. |

We pay PUTRA (tax) quarterly. We used to pay yearly. Those were the days when we made less money though. Every three years though we pay a renewal of $500.00.

Jim, I think it's safe to say that your revenues are a tad too high to be eligible for filing annually. Besides... Ah-nold doesn't want you to be a stranger. Steve, No it isn't much at all. That's why it's so incredible that carriers deliberately under-report their PUCTRA fees. Karl Jones |

I have not seen that report for a few years but I remember it only being once a year back then. Your probably right maybe quarterly now. IT's not much tax right?

$500 every 3 years
And a PUC tax report is to be filled out every year. I forget the rate of tax, not very high. Tenths of 1% not even enought to worry about. You will have some other fees associated with staying legal although not to the PUC: Random drug screening of employees. Pull notice fees for drivers. Yearly fees to airports if you choose to run to them. Then if you get onto 16+ passenger vehcles an entire other layer of fees get added on! But nothing a busy company should not be able to handle. |
