I got this call yesterday...

Me: "Premier Limousine, can I help you?"

Caller: "How much is your Hummer?"

Me: $89,500

Caller: "Ok, Thanks" (hang up)

The Hummer is not for sale nor was ever for sale, I think he wanted a prom quote (sounded young) but never said what it was for. I couldn't resist. Plus, the Hummer is already booked solid for proms so it wasn't any loss on my part. Big Grin

Dean I know of a operator in your area that specializes in two hour "wedding packages" that makes their real money off the illegal substances.

In fact if any of your regular clients travel to St Louis, give us a call, we'll take care of them.

We started 3 years ago with one white lincoln in the St Louis market competing against companies with similar attitudes like I've heard here.

Fast Forward 3 years....16 vehicles, a fleet I would put up against anyone.

Proms is a big part of it and the kids parents will pay top dollar for the best vehicles and more importantly the best service.

We are very happy with limos.com and like Digger we return EVERY email with a personal note about the opportunity and get our name out.

Our 16 vehicles did over 25K yesterday alone on proms.

Our business model is simple -
- Best Vehicles
- Best Associates
- Best SERVICE

Same here. I dont even bother telling them the price of the limo for sale - Im way past that stage - I just ask: Would you like to buy it or rent it? Some just laugh silly.

I usually just tell them: THERE IS ALWAYS A YELLOW CAB. That tells those tire kickers everything they need to know.

My favorite prom call was when a girl called requesting a 10 passenger stretch. I told her my price (already a bargain) and she goes "NO!, we need something cheaper!" I explained she could go with a sedan for a bit cheaper, then she just freaked out on me. "NO, YOU DONT UNDERSTAND! I JUST WANT A CHEAP LIMO! I DONT CARE WHAT COLOR, JUST A CHEAP LIMO FOR ME AND MY FRIENDS!" MY ears were about to pop. I thanked her for calling and suggested Dial7 black car service.

Don't kid yourself about what thes Kids can and cannot afford. Not so much in my area but when I worked Detroit, it was nothing for some of these Kids to pay out $1,200 to $1,500.00 for a 8 Pax for the night. Over $2K for a 20 pax coach. The Guy in my area with a couple of H2's starts out at $750.00 for the first two hours and $125 per after that. Even here in economicly depressed Northern Michigan, he is fully booked for Proms. The problem is, he like me has very little other than that and he is feeling the same pinch I am but he is still hanging in there for now.

Well, since we had a subject change... we return all e-mails from Limos.com, even if they don't call and book it helps with name recognition. Since many companies probably don't reply to them (or few) they are losing out of easy advertisement. Anytime I can stick the company name in front of someone, I take the opportunity. So far I'd say that the advertisement here pays for itself in bookings. No, we don't advertise on limos.com under Premier Limousine but if you looked around you'd figure it out. Smile

What does that say about the prom leads you are charging Limos.com advertisers for ???

Which is why you can turn them off - an option we've offered for more than 5 years. Also, any mention of the word "cheap" "cheapest" kills the lead as well. (Goes for any lead, airport, wedding, don't matter)

Of course, it is easier to deny these features exist and never use them, then bitch about it later exclaiming that we (limos.com) should be managing your account.

Kudos to those who take the 3 minutes to educate themselves about a service they signed up for.

All our new advertisers are telephoned and given a personal walk-thru education about our service and its many features; most "don't have time" or "we'll call you back" and decline the education.

These are the same people who want to bitch about it later.

That's why, as long as it has been an option, our company has opted-out of receiving prom leads.

Viperion Corporation / Limos.com Your reply

"Have you ever fielded the phone calls from prom kids during prom season? After 50 calls every single darn day of "how much for a limo" I can see why he responded as such. Most of these kids can't afford JACK ("Our budget is $100") and they call looking for a bargain "any specials?" "any deals?" -- believe me, the guy calling aint booking NOTHING, now, or in the future."

Yes, that was a one-time answer. I had been slammed with calls all day and was right in the middle of washing my hands when this kid called. I was polite when I answered his question but I honestly thought he would laugh and say "no, how much to rent it?". It was right at the end of a triple weekend (two night-outs plus a wedding) so I did have some sarcasm in my voice. BTW, I posted this knowing that some would find it funny because they understand how odd some of the prom calls can be, just trying to lighten up a stressfull season. Big Grin

I have been surprised how many calls I pre-judged as someone who 'would never book' actually did, and try to train my staff to think the same way

I have to agree with you on that one, Tony. Whilst prom calls seem like groundhog day, we remain professional. The bottom line is proms produce a major portion of our revenue and these kids are paying close to $1,000 to utilize our service and our vehicles. My wife does the majority of the phones and we just got a new recording device. It's nice to get home later in the day and here those "hey listen to this" calls. It puts us in a light mood for the rest of the evening.

Bottom line is we are in a service industry and every potential customer should be treated with respect, unless they are obviously a prank caller or under the influence of something and being profane.

While I sympathize with the situation Digger faced I prefer to laugh about those after I hang up rather than treat the caller as ignorant to his face.

I have been surprised how many calls I pre-judged as someone who 'would never book' actually did, and try to train my staff to think the same way.

I did think about that, I haven't answered those calls but had been in the office many many times listening to those type of calls constantly ringing in. That is kinda what I was meaning when I said I hoped it was just a "in the moment" response.

If it was me calling, and you gave that answer, I would assume you were not at all serious about providing limo service and would never call you again and if ever asked, or heard someone mention your company, express my opinion of such.

"the Hummer is already booked solid for proms so it wasn't any loss on my part."

If it was already rented, why not just say that? You claim it isn't any loss on your part. What about possible future business? Maybe it was someone younger looking to for their wedding, maybe looking to get a limo for their parents anniversary? I just don't get how giving a smart ass answer to someone because they sound young is worth that risk.

IMO that was highly unprofessional response based on the dialog given. I honestly hope this isn't a general business attitude and was just a "in the moment" response. I'm not writing this to put you down, but to give my $.02 as to another way to look at the situation that I am hoping you just overlooked and can learn from.
