Think Higher prices will be better for us in the long run. More people taking mass transit and giving up thier cars. Then when a special occation comes along they will need a limo even more. And wont mind springing for limo ride as a special treat with all the money they have saved all year riding the bus/train. Hell let it go to 7 a gallon hopefully means less people on the road!

Go and cry about $3.50 to $4.00 bucks a gallon now, but it will only get worse. Give it a year or two and we will be paying 5 or 6 bucks a gallon or more, no matter who gets elected.
We value spotted owls and untouched Alaskan forests more than we do lower fuel prices, and we are paying, literally, for that now. I'm not saying it is right or wrong; it is just a fact. Let's see how good that "feel-good" legislation that kept us from exploiting the Alaskan reserves feels when we are paying as much for gas as they do in Europe. |

Squires fuel surcharges are typicaly set up in the US by shipping or trucking companues to compensate for fluctuations in fuel prices during the duaration of a contract.
So say fuel was 3.00 a gallon (or liter) and you agreed to haul fright for a year at a set price. Well half way through the year fuel goes up and if you continued at the same rate you would be losing moeny on every trip. If you stoped doing the work you would be sued for breech of contract. So the fuel surcharge is written into every contract stating : If fuel goes up this is how much we are going to charge as a fuel surcharge. The thing is they are supposed to be temporoary as when you wrote a new contract with the same customer for next year you would factor your price to take into account the new price level of fuel. The only reason we in the limousine industry (who mostly do not do yearly contracts) can charge this surcharge is that we can use the excuse of I have all these sales brochures printed that say $60 an hour but I really need to add 5% to that price to cover the rise in fuel but then what would I do with all these brochures?? Or It's to hard to change my website to reflect the higher rates. Because in reality these higher prices have been with us for over a year now so we all should have adjusted our prices. Many of us just find it easer to say to the customer: We have not raised our rate!! When in actuality the rate increase has been hidden in surcharges. And since consumers are seeing fuel surcharges all over these days (UPS FEDEX ETC.) they sort of lay down for it with us. There are not to many reasons most limo companies cannot change thier rates ever week if they wanted to (or even every phone call). But charging a fuel surcharge is just a little way we can get away with squezing a little extra out of the customer. |

I heard on CNN, that a MAJOR oil supply was found in the ground in North Dakota. One of the largest ones found in the USA ever. Funny, the gov't decided not to tap into the supply, but leave it for a reserve. This oil vein could drastically drop the fuel prices all over the USA in a matter of months... but no one would make money on that?!
I've implemented a fuel surcharge on EVERY trip since last spring. It helps at least. |

10 bucks per gallon ??? I think I'd switch to renting out a horse and buggy instead, the darn up-keep of the horse would be cheaper.

O.K. guys, how much are you paying for a gallon of gas ? In the U.K. were almost $10 gallon, mind you, the main reason for that is our stupid greedy Government that takes almost $7 a gallon in tax. Also the tax paid per year on a car( yours is a tag plate ) will rise on large engined cars to $800 a year, if you buy a NEW car with a big engine the first years tax ( tag ) will be $1,900, so you guys think you have it bad ! Anyone tell me how many Limo's have a small engine ..............that works ? Here we have no choice other than being ripped off !

They came from the same part of the Barrel in 1963 as they do now. I guess we were just being gouged on the price of oil back then and now we are being gouged on the Gasoline.

In all seriousness...One should remember that a good share of the cost of gasoline is due to the price of refining and the shortage of refining capacity here in the US. Also, lubricating oil is made from the cheaper & heavier part of the barrel of crude which is worth less and does not increase in value at anything near the rate of the lighter part of the barrel.
