How does one organize a Limo Association in his/her city? Is it a difficult task?

I have been in the limo business for almost 2 years now, and still have questions everyday. I would love to see a association get started in Indiana. I'm only about 45 mins away from Indy, and would be more than happy to attend the meetings. I feel this could be a great resource for info and additional help.

If I can be of any help, please let me know.

You will need at least a President, Vice-President and Secretary to start.
You need to talk to an accountant to come up with costs to file as a non profit association.
You will need to agree a name and than an address, (you can always get a post office box for that) or use one of your business address to save money.
For start up fees you might have to kick in extra money to cover the costs.
You will have to establish a membership fee and a trade member fee.
You will need to establish bylaws and a code of ethics, you can use NLA and ITLA bylaws as a guide, but they are based on a larger scale association. If you email me your address (Guy@paradiselimousines.com) I will be glad to send you an example of what we use at the West Florida Livery Association (Tampa/St. Petersburg). Michael made mention of Greg Palie in Orlando, call Greg and ask him to send a copy of GOLA's. Both of ours are very similar as we work together with our state organization we started (FSGTO).
Gola seperates the Secretary and Treasurer position, So does the Atlantic Coast Livery Association (ACLA) and the Florida Limousine Association (FLA the real one), they are also part of the FSGTO.
I will also be happy to send you samples of a membership application for limo companies and one for trade members, just let me know. Carolyn Nelson Bellair Limousines Maryland and NLA Liason would be happy to assist you also.
As you could probably tell I believe in associations, I will not work out of our association (WFLA).
I hope this will get you started, call or email me anytime.
Guy, It is always a pleasure to read your stuff!!!!!!!!!!! Sincerely, DEAN SCHULER

There are a bunch of people you can contact for information on this:

Try Gregory Palie at gnslimo@aol.com -- Greater Orlando Livery Association. (GOLA) I think Greg frequents the forum, albeit with a Star-Trek cloaking device. Smile

Also, Sean Sarram with the Arizona Livery Association -- Sean can be contacted at reserve@starlitelimos.com -- I think he founded that association.

Good luck!
Michael
